So I finally got up the gumption to go on stage and try out the comedy routine. 3 minutes almost exactly if I didn't stall, stutter or otherwise mess up. I bombed big time and it totally ruled. Lots of comics at the
Comedy Underground, and I was on seventh. Everyone was bombing, the lady who went on in front of me got laughs initially but they tapered off by the end. The actual experience was nothing like I expected. My main concerns going in were that I would forget huge chunks of a bit, or that seeing the light would make me completely blank out the last minute of the set. Neither happened. You don't really see anyone that's not right up front. I didn't forget anything at all, but I was too quick and mixed the order up a little bit on some punch lines. I'm not comfortable enough with saying the material out loud to really sell it the way it needs to be sold to get the proper reaction. A young lady from Texas rocked the house and showed us all how to do it. Bottom line is, I learned three comics after my set that the only way to get the crowd is to REALLY sell the material and to get them started right away. Of course, this is nothing new to anyone. I am just fantastically happy to have done something I have always wanted to do and have been talking about doing lately. I am beat. I had a few drinks before the set as liquid encouragement, but the drinks that they serve are as watered down as they come. I think they actually use tonic rather than vodka in a mind eraser there. The upside is they have sattellite TV and play RAW on east coast time, so theoretically I could show up at 6 next week and watch RAW before the show, that is, if wrestling didn't suck my balls and I cared whatsoever to watch it these days, so too bad. I gots comedy now, end even though I rocked badly for a bunch of corpses, I look forward to three totally different minutes next week.
